As interior design trends tend to come and go, many are lured to the timeless beauty of natural materials. Natural stone is one of best materials to use to endow a bathroom renovation with timeless beauty.
Much of the beautiful stone that is commonplace in today’s homes has historical roots. The granite that provides for elegant and durable kitchen counter tops is the same material the Egyptians used for the exteriors of their buildings. The Greeks used marble and limestone on their religious and civic centers. The Romans used thin slabs of colored marble, alabaster, and jasper as veneers on walls made of concrete and brick.
Today, the interior design community continues to search for interesting combinations of surface materials. Many have begun to integrate semi-precious stones into other materials such as marble. While such materials would have once been reserved for only an exclusive few, the new global marketplace and modern technology have impacted all of our living environments. Though we may not be in Rome, we are still able to do as the Romans did.
